Woofin’ Around Monterey

The Monterey Peninsula may be known to many around the globe for its coastal charm, boutique wineries, world class golf courses, fine cuisine and more, BUT to dog lovers from near and far it’s cherished for the many canine friendly activities, restaurants and hotels located throughout the local area.

Pet Friendly

The Portola Hotel is one of many hotel properties on the Peninsula that welcome pooches of all sizes with open arms and of course a homemade dog biscuit upon check-in! With VIP Pet Amenities and a concierge to help book doggy daycare services as well as pet spa services and dog walking, your dog will be just as spoiled as you during a stay at the Portola. In addition, both onsite restaurants, Jacks Restaurant & Lounge and Peter B’s Brewpub, offer heated, pet friendly patios (and of course a special dog dish), so no one is left out of your Monterey Bay dining experience. Portola Homemade Dog Cookies

Shop at Monterey’s lovely outdoor mall, Del Monte Shopping Center where dogs are welcome with open paws or venture over the hill to Carmel by the Sea and browse fine boutiques, galleries and wine tasting rooms. Don’t miss the Fountain of Woof at the Carmel Plaza and make sure to visit Diggidy Dog Boutique for a special keepsake or dapper new outfit.

If you need to get outdoors for a workout, pack your leash at hit the trails at Jacks Peak County Park in Monterey, Garland Ranch Regional Park in Carmel Valley or Garrapata State Park on Highway One towards Big Sur. Staying a little closer to the coastline? Then stroll along the Coastal Recreation Trail and walk to historic Cannery Row or Fisherman’s Wharf.

Doris and Patches

If a playdate is needed to get some wiggles out, visit the City of Monterey’s Dog Park at Lake El Estero, Carmel’s Mission Trail Park near the Carmel Mission Basilica or the Rip Van Winkle Open Space on Congress Avenue in Pacific Grove right before the gates of Pebble Beach. Meet-ups and private training sessions are also available at Zoom Room Monterey Bay on Central Avenue in Pacific Grove.

After an exhausting day of shopping, dining and wine tasting; relax and catch the sunset at Carmel Beach or drive over to scenic Pacific Grove and walk along the trails at Asilomar State Beach.

So pet lovers, welcome to beautiful Monterey!
