Monterey Conference Center Hard Hat Tour Guest Post by Nancy Williams, MCC Director of Sales and Events

The renovation at the Monterey Conference Center (MCC) is underway, with demolition complete and the steel beam infrastructure in place, the state of the art facility will be back in business by Spring 2017.  After a recent hard hat tour of the facility I am here to provide you with a sneak peak of the progress!

In conjunction with the MCC renovation the City of Monterey is replacing the Portola Plaza driveway and installing a new fountain.  The new fountain design inspiration is from our beautiful Monterey Bay. The design concept is a school of fish swimming around the fountain with interchangeable lighting.

The MCC will remain a two level facility offering just over 40,000 square feet of meeting and event space and is on its way to becoming a U.S. Green Building Council LEED® Certified building. On the roof of the new conference center the team is in the process of seeing if adding solar panels would help the MCC reach LEED® Platinum.

During the renovation Jeffers Plaza, located between the MCC and Portola Hotel & Spa was determined to need significant repairs. Repair work includes all new granite pavers to match the new MCC terrace. The new plaza will provide improved break and networking space for meeting and event attendees.
