Grab your hammer, hardhat and tool belt and get ready to PLAY, LEARN & GROW at the Portola Hotel & Spa! In partnership with the Monterey County Youth Museum (MY Museum) and in conjunction with the Portola Hotel & Spa’s lobby renovation (currently underway), the Portola has created a hands-on construction zone for children to explore and learn while renovations are taking place in the surrounding area. Children can put on their hard hats (available at check-in for hotel guests, while supplies last) and work at the kid-friendly “construction site” with a variety of tools to for kiddos of all ages to play and work with!
Portola’s Engineering Team Hard at Work
With the goal of helping make their guests as comfortable as possible and share their excitement during the renovation process, the Portola Hotel and MY Museum partnership has recreated a wooden frame of a playhouse similar to the look and feel of a current exhibit at the museum. The playhouse includes carpet squares, a mini refrigerator, colorful construction cones, foam play bricks for stacking and more!
“The board and staff of MY Museum are thrilled to be partnering with Portola Hotel & Spa on this fun, hands on exhibit. We feel it is important to have family friendly options within walking distance of our museum and are lucky to have Portola just a few blocks away,” says Lauren Cohen, Executive Director at MY Museum.
Kids Enjoying the Hands on Exhibit
MY Museum, located on 425 Washington Street in Downtown Monterey, just a three block walk from the Portola Hotel, is a playground for the mind. The museum was developed in 1997 to provide an environment where curiosity and creativity flourish, while both children and adults learn together through experience. Constructed as a microcosm of “what makes Monterey special”, this 8,500 square-foot, not for profit museum is packed with a variety of hands on exhibits, making each visit unique and exciting.
